The severe season runs roughly May through August, when summer supercells push hail and straight-line winds across the metro, the same systems that have driven major roof-damage claims all over Hennepin County in recent years. North Minneapolis is no stranger to it, having taken a destructive tornado through the neighborhood back in 2011.
